OEUK Medicals are the new OGUK medicals – all you need to know

OEUK Medicals are the new OGUK medicals - all you need to know:

As a provider of offshore medicals, we find it interesting that after three years since “Oil & Gas UK” (OGUK) became “Offshore Energies UK” (OEUK), we still get asked to book “OGUK Medicals”.  This proves how difficult a rebrand can be.

If you work offshore, you’ve probably had an OGUK Medical. This crucial certificate proves that you are medically fit to work offshore. When OEUK became the new name for OGUK in 2022, OGUK medicals also changed to “OEUK medicals”.  The name-change was designed to help the body embrace the evolving energy sector, as it shifts towards a more diverse energy mix.

What’s the difference between OGUK medical and OEUK medical?

In short, it’s still the same medical, although the guidelines are to be reviewed. The purpose and process of the medical remain the same:

  • Assessing a worker’s physical and mental fitness to safely perform duties offshore.
    • Covering vital checks such as eyesight, hearing, lung function, BMI, blood pressure, and a general medical examination.
    • Issuing a certificate valid for a MAXIMUM of two years (unless a shorter duration is necessary for health reasons – as decided by the Occupational Health Doctor).

OEUK Certificate is still the recognised standard across the UK offshore industry and remains an essential requirement for employment offshore.
