Small Steps for a Sustainable Healthy Lifestyle

We’re now halfway through the month of January and we’re wondering how your New Year’s Resolutions are going?

If you’ve given up on them already then hey, that’s okay – don’t be too hard on yourself. Resolutions are great, but very few last! This is because we set them when we’re not ready for them or we set unrealistic goals. When it comes to health, consider taking small steps that you can add to as you go along, which will help you meet bigger goals. Small steps are more likely to have a long-lasting impact on your health. Everyone’s situation is different, so starting points vary, but here are some examples:

✴️ Instead of cutting out all ultra-processed foods (UPFs) at once, try omitting sugar from your diet (sugary drinks are the worst!) and simply start your day with a high protein breakfast. Protein provides all essential amino acids, which are good for bone density, muscle repair and hormone production. Opt for wholefoods, as opposed to processed, as these contain good vitamins and enzymes for digestion. This will provide the energy you need for the day ahead, keeping you satiated for longer, and it’ll keep your insulin in check.

✴️ Instead of going to the gym every day, start by going for 20 -30 mins walk at lunch time. Once you feel the benefit on your physical and mental health, it should be easier to engage in some type of sport you will enjoy. Why not try Tennis or Salsa?

✴️ Reduce your tea/coffee intake to 1 or 2 cups a day. Drink your last cup at 2pm latest to ensure good night sleep. Let’s get your hydration up! Add some freshly squeezed🍋 to your water for liver support.

✴️ Instead of abstaining from alcohol, commit to not drinking two nights in a row or drinking just once a week. Alcohol before bed will impact your sleep as well

Whatever your goals, be kind to yourself. Scientists say that majority of our self-talk is negative. Be your best friend. You are the person you will spend the rest of your life with! ❤️
